There are free castles around you, which are growing and generating resources. Farming consist on attacking those free castles in order to loot them and to get extra resources.
For farming Press a free castle on the map > Click Attack > And select your troops. You don’t need silver for farming, silver is only needed to conquer.
Once finished the attack, your units loot the castle and return home to your home castle automatically. If you go to Castle > Units > Troop movements, you will see your units and quantities of resources obtained.
Free castles have no troops, but they have a little defensive value because of the Fortifications of the castle itself.
The formation of your farming force is argued back and forth. No one can agree on the best formations.
So here are the best ones that I have tried.
2 handcarts + 1 swordsman
2 handcarts + 10 archers
2 handcarts + 1 lancer
1 ox cart + 1 swordsman
1 ox cart + 10 archers
1 ox cart + 1 lancer
25 Armoured Horse
Double all units you would send in the day time. Minimum. Also expect losses just in case.
This is the minimum troops to send out. Any less and you could loose troops. Overkill never hurt the person attacking 😉

Farming is attacking free castles (a guaranteed win) with a small amount of units in order to extract resources. It helps you build your castle and troops faster as well as silver.
The best combos of attacking troops I use:
1 sword 2 handcarts
1 sword 1 ox
1 lancer 2 handcarts
1 lancer 1 ox
25 ah (day only)
50 lancers
Generally speaking, lancers are best because they can attack at night.
